Starring...Libby

Here it is, my daughter's first movie. Shot with our still camera, the quality isn't great, however, I didn't have time to grab a real camera from work and I know you are all dying to see her in action. Enjoy!

My turn to blog on...

Well I thought with so many people coming to my blog to check out the great pictures of my wonderful daughter, Libby, that I should at least put something thought provoking. So its my turn to blog on The Da Vinci Code. While alot has been said about this in the Christian community, (some abit over the top conservative) I thought I would post a quote from a recent interview with Brian McLaren and how truth can be found in the book.
"Brown's book is about exposing hypocrisy and cover-up in organized religion, and it is exposing organized religion's grasping for power. Again, there's something in that that people resonate with in the age of pedophilia scandals, televangelists, and religious political alliances. As a follower of Jesus I resonate with their concerns as well."

This is a great interview and McLaren is a great voice in the Church today. Continue reading here

Related to Brian McLaren, I just finished reading his three books in the "New Kind of Christian Series." These books have caused me to rethink many things. Especially the last book titled, "The Last Word and the Word after That," has caused me to really think about my views on heaven and hell. Many of the teachings I recieved before where never really explained and this book raises alot of questions. Hopefully I can blog more on this in the future. For now I am hoping to read some classic works on this issue. "The Great Divorce"-C.S.Lewis and "The Divine Comedy"-Dante. If anyone has read these books I would love to hear what you have to say about them. I have found it interesting that much of our views on hell in our western churches has a great history in theologians and not as much a history coming from the Bible. Interesting...

Today, Libby had her first doctor's appointment. The doctor is quite pleased. She is growing alot. She's gonna be big like her daddy I think. Dawn noted one night that Libby and I sleep in the same positions. So here is her sleeping in much the same way I do.

My daughter is so cute. I can't believe it. And last night she pretty much slept through the night. With the exception of a feeding. Much better than being up and fussy all night before yesterday. Dawn and I finally where able to catch up in the sleep department. Huzzah!

First Family Photo

The Grunau'sThis photo was taken a mere 15 minutes after Libby was born. Just look at those two cuties. I am so proud of my wife and Libby isn't the only cute one. After roughly 30 hours of labour and 1 1/2hr of pushing Libby out just look at her, she looks great even after all that. I truly am the luckiest man on earth.

It's a Girl!

At 11:56am on May 20th our beautiful baby girl arrived. Elizabeth Abigail Grunau is the most precious gift and we are so blessed that she is finally here. Libby (that’s short for Elizabeth) is the cutest baby in the world!! She came into the world at 8lbs 11.5oz and was 21inches long. I guess she got some of her size from Dad! Both Mom and baby are doing fine, although Mom is very tired and is looking forward to some much needed rest. We arrived home from the hospital this afternoon and Libby seems to be enjoying her new home. Keep checking back for more pictures on our blogs and on flickr. (There is a link to our flickr on Daryl’s blog, I will have to add the same link to Dawn’s)

Day before the due date

Day before the due date
Originally uploaded by ddgrunau.
Well its the day before our due date. Ours is used very loosely as I am not pregnant. However, after the doctor made it seem like Dawn would have the baby before the due date we are just starting to get impatient. I guess if the doctor is right we are going to be meeting our first child very very soon. Maybe even tonight?

No more...

I just can't take this anymore. This waiting. I feel like I have waited for over three years for this moment and I can't wait any longer. Some would say...well if you've waited that long then a few more days isn't that bad...however, I think that is crap. The longer you wait and the closer it gets just seems to make it worse. Especially when it is waiting to be a Dad. Excitement of a new baby, stress of the upcoming labor (sure wish those fairtales of the stork where real; I know my wife does :-) then bounce those two thoughts back n'forth in my mind all day and what do you get? Someone who is beginning to become very impatient. The news from the doctor that it could be "any day" now almost makes me anticipate it more, however, it does make me alot more excited. If this is how "weird" I am now I wonder how odd I will be the day after our child is born? Guess I will have to wait to find that out too.

Finished and waiting...

Well, late last Saturday night (3am actually) the Calbreak video was complete. It then took abit of last minute tweaking on Monday to have it ready to get duplicated. Some 200 DVD's will be duplicated in the next few weeks by our office. However, the long hours are over. Just to give you an idea of how many hours a video like this takes. Between three people working on the video in less than 7 days we put in close to 175 hours! That's right, I didn't get that wrong...88hrs is what I worked on it and we still can't believe we finished it that fast. In previous years ALL the work was done by Greg and it would take him much longer than a week. Anyways, I guess that puts the time in as more than 1 hour for every minute in the final product. Crazy!
Life is starting return to normal, however, being so busy was great to keep my mind off waiting for our baby to be born. Now, I have time to relax (which I won't later I guess) and wait and think, and wait and wait some more. With about 2 weeks to go and not much to occupy my time, I think I just might go crazy. The final thing that I want to say is this: being a man and watching your wife live in a constant state of 'uncomfort' during these last few weeks isn't easy. God knew what he was doing when decided that the women would carry the child, because I think we as men our kinda wusses. We seem to agonize over the pain our wives go through. I think if we where going through the pain ourselves we just might lose it. And know for a favorite quote I recently 'heard'. "If it's space your lacking, keep your fanny a packing."
